I guess there is an observation selection effect where the scientists who are vocally dismissive are more likely to make themselves known and the ones who find philosophy intimidating are less likely to come up to me and say something about it? But I encounter a lot of dismissive scientists (and a fair number of neutral/no opinion/happy-to-co-exist scientists), and have had no real encounters with the "we find you intimidating" group before (usually the intimidation goes the other direction!)
